A Retreat for the Ongoing Unfolding of Awakening

Join us in Bali for an embodied passage through stillness, devotion, and community — an exploration of awakening not as an end point, but as a living, evolving relationship with truth.

“Wisdom tells me I am nothing. Love tells me I am everything. Between the two my life flows.”

— Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

This is the heart of the Tantric path, not choosing one over the other, but holding both the formless and the form as sacred. In the tradition of non-dual Shaiva Tantra, awakening is not a retreat from life, but a recognition of the unchanging Self through life.

This retreat invites you into that movement: from stillness into expression, from emptiness into embodiment, from quiet into praise. Not to abandon the world, but to see it clearly. Not to cling to silence, but to let it echo through every gesture. Here, the inward and the outward are no longer in conflict. They are two faces of the same truth.

What to Expect

This retreat begins long before we arrive in Ubud.

Once you register, you’ll receive access to our online course: The Path of Awakening, a series of foundational lectures and practices that invite you to begin the retreat and your contemplative journey from home. This is the heart of our shared language, a common ground that allows us to go deeper together.

Before we meet in person, we’ll also gather twice online as a group. These sessions are a space to connect, reflect on the teachings, and get to know each other. So that when we arrive in Bali, we come not as strangers, but as a Sangha, spiritual community.

Our time in Ubud begins gently, with an opening ceremony, a shared meal, and space to land. We’ll get oriented to the retreat container, meet each other in person, and settle into the rhythm of the land.

Then, we enter silence.

For three days, we hold a deep and clear container: no phones, no speech, no external distractions. Each day offers guided meditation, atma vichara (self-inquiry), and asana designed to support subtle awareness and inner stability. This isn’t a retreat from life, it’s a return to what’s beneath the noise.

And then, we shift.

From silence, we step back into the world as sacred. The final days of the retreat explore the Divine in Manifest: kirtan, fire ceremony, somatic practices, and the vibrant movement of energy and form.

You’ll be guided into both stillness and expression. Into the silent core of being and into the joy of embodied devotion.

This retreat is a passage. A remembering. A returning.
From inner to outer. From silence to song. From solitude to Sangha.

The Path of Awakening

The Threefold Movement of the Tantric Journey

This retreat is shaped by a core understanding from the Tantric tradition: awakening unfolds in layers — not as a straight line, but as a rhythm between stillness, energy, and integration. These three aspects form the foundation of our time together.
Awakening to Awareness

The recognition of stillness as your natural state.
Silence, self-inquiry, meditation.
Awakening to Shakti

The honoring of life, energy, and devotion as sacred.
Ritual, kirtan, somatics, movement.
Union

The lived integration of form and formless.
Wholeness, presence, everyday embodiment.

We explore each of these not as abstract teachings, but through direct experience — woven into the structure, practices, and rhythm of the retreat.

Why We’re Offering This Retreat

We’re offering this retreat because these teachings continue to shape how we live — not just in practice, but in relationship, in silence, in daily life.

Because something real happens when people come together with the shared intention to rest in the sacred. Not to escape life, but to meet it more fully.

We’ve seen again and again what becomes possible when sincere, grounded teachings are shared in person — in a space held by presence, by lineage, and by community.

In silence, in devotion, in honest practice, something opens.

Not an experience to chase, but a recognition to return to.

When we gather as Sangha — with our questions, our longing, our real lives — the teachings come alive. Not as ideas, but as something lived, known, and quietly remembered.

This retreat is an offering into that space.

To reconnect, not only with teachings, but with each other.

To rest, to return, to begin again — with more clarity, more softness, and more truth.

It’s Not for Everyone

—and That’s a Good Thing

This retreat isn’t about escaping your life or chasing spiritual highs.
It’s not designed to entertain, impress, or promise unrealistic transformations.

If you’re looking for a curated experience with perfect aesthetics, constant stimulation, or someone else to tell you what’s true — this isn’t the right space for you.

If you struggle to respect silence...

If you prefer certainty over curiosity...

If you're drawn to spirituality that avoids discomfort, insists on constant positivity, or skips over the hard questions...

If you already have it all figured out — or think you do — this likely isn’t for you.

This retreat is rooted in tradition, but lived in real time.
It asks for presence, curiosity, and the willingness to not know.

It is for you if:

  • You’ve had moments of stillness or insight, but they haven’t yet found a place in your day-to-day life.
  • You feel drawn to both the quiet of awareness and the aliveness of embodiment — and are looking for a path that welcomes both.
  • You want to explore teachings that are rooted in lineage, but offered in a way that speaks to where you are now.
  • You’re not looking for entertainment, you’re looking for something that can meet the deeper questions you’ve been carrying.
  • You’re craving meaningful connection, with your practice, with others, and with the thread of truth that runs beneath it all.
  • You’re longing for a reset — not to escape, but to return to what matters most.

This retreat is for you.

What you'll take home

This retreat isn’t about achieving a permanent state or chasing peak experiences. It’s about deepening your capacity to meet life — as it is — with awareness, presence, and sincerity.

Here’s what may genuinely shift as a result of this experience:

  • A more stable familiarity with stillness.
Not something dramatic or new, but a subtle returning — again and again — to what’s already here underneath the noise.
  • Perspective.
A clearer understanding that losing center doesn’t mean something is wrong. It’s part of the path. You’ll leave with more tools to recognize that movement and respond with clarity instead of self-judgment.
  • An integrated experience of both silence and expression.
Many people come with a preference for one side of the spectrum — stillness or energy. You’ll explore what it means to hold both, without opposition.
  • A relationship to practice that’s less idealistic and more sustainable.
Not a list of techniques, but an embodied sense of how to live this work in your actual life — with your family, your job, your distractions, and your emotions.
  • Supportive connections.
Real people, real conversations, and the beginnings of spiritual friendship that doesn’t require explanation — Sangha, in the truest sense.
  • A more grounded understanding of the Tantric view.
Not just inspiration, but teachings and frameworks that help you make sense of your inner life in a more coherent and compassionate way.

This retreat offers practical tools, lived experience, and a deeper orientation to yourself. It offers a way to engage with life more fully.

Phone-Free Retreat Space

To maintain the depth and clarity of this retreat, we will be collecting phones and digital devices at the start of our time together. Devices will be stored securely and can be returned to you at any time, without question.

You are trusted to know your own limits and needs.

The removal of devices is a deliberate part of the retreat structure. It allows the nervous system to settle. It encourages attention to turn inward. It supports the rare experience of sustained presence, without fragmentation.

Without the habitual pull toward checking, reaching, responding, or consuming, it becomes possible to meet what is here — unmediated and whole.

This is not about restriction, but about offering the conditions necessary for sincere introspection and realignment. If at any point you feel you need your phone, you are welcome to retrieve it without question.

Bhairav is the founder of Anuttara Ashram and co-creator of the Anuttara Turyatita School and Teacher Trainings, alongside his partner Artemis. A lead facilitator, co-author of The Power of Tantra Meditation, and co-host of the Tantra & Yoga Podcast, Bhairav is a respected teacher in the Shivoham Lineage.

He has dedicated over 20 years to the study and practice of Yoga and Tantra, beginning his journey in India in 1998 and completing a 6-year initiation with Guruji Maharaj in 2018. Now a Guru and lineage holder, Bhairav offers authentic teachings rooted in deep personal practice rather than academic study.

Authorized to initiate practitioners into Mantra Meditation, Bhairav is known for his profound wisdom, humility, and approachable nature, offering a rare and transformative presence to all who learn from him.

Artemis Emily Doyle

Artemis Emily Doyle is the visionary behind Anuttara's Turyatita School and co-founder of Anuttara Ashram. She co-created Anuttara’s Teacher Trainings and courses alongside her partner, Bhairav. Artemis is also the co-author of The Power of Tantra Meditation, co-host of the Tantra & Yoga Podcast, and a respected teacher in the Shivoham Tantra lineage.

Her spiritual journey began in 2008, leading to initiations in indigenous dance and cacao ceremony, and deepened through Darshan with teachers like Mooji Baba, Sadhguru, and Guruji Maharaj. Since 2015, Artemis has helped organize transformative tantrik festivals and has been initiated into rare tantric practices, particularly those honoring menstruation.

Deeply rooted in the Kashmir Shaivist tradition, she continues her dedicated study and practice of non-dual tantra, primarily under the guidance of Ellen Emmet since 2017.

Tara

Tara (she/they) is an Anuttara Yoga & Meditation Facilitator and a devoted Practitioner of Devotional Dance. She has been immersed in the study and practice of Traditional Tantra within the lineage of Guruji Raj Kumar for the past six years, continually deepening her understanding through ongoing Tantric studies and personal sadhana.

At Anuttara, Tara co-facilitates the 200-hour Yoga & Meditation Teacher Trainings, online courses, and retreats, bringing a grounded, heart-centered presence to her teachings. Her offerings weave together the wisdom of Tantra, the embodiment of devotional movement, and the transformative power of sacred community.

Through her practice and facilitation, Tara invites others into a deeper connection with themselves, the sacred, and the living traditions of Yoga and Tantra.
